A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males aged nine and ten years old.
The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in recently.
The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his suspicions.
She explained the defendant went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement again.
She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five children.
